Tourist escapes death

A French tourist is recovering after falling 75 feet into the Grand Canyon, hospital officials said Saturday.

Witnesses reported that the 18-year-old was taking photographs when he slipped and fell over the edge, the National Park Service said in a statement.

He was in good condition at Flagstaff Medical Center early Saturday morning, spokeswoman Carrie Heinonen said.

He was being treated for neck, wrist and ankle injuries, the park service said.

Authorities said the man fell Thursday afternoon about a quarter mile east of Mather Point on the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.

Park rangers rappelled into the canyon to assess the teen's injuries before a park helicopter airlifted him out.

Gay stuns Bolt

Tyson Gay stormed to victory in the 100m at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm.

Gay clocked 9.84 seconds to beat Bolt by 0.13s and record his first ever win over the World and Olympic champion over 100m.

With perfect conditions in Sweden for sprinting, Bolt and Gay - the world's two fastest 100m runners in history - exchanged a touch of hands as they prepared to face each other over this distance for only the third time.

Bolt's last defeat came at the same Stockholm track in 2008 when Jamaican compatriot Powell took victory.

Since that reversal, Bolt had enjoyed 14 successive wins, including the last time he clashed with Gay at the Berlin World Championships last year.
And Gay, who impressed out of the blocks and dominated his fierce rival from the halfway stage, said: "It feels great to beat Usain but deep down inside I know he is not 100%. I look forward to beating him when he is 100%.

"It was very important to beat someone like that for the fans and the sport. My body worked well today, I was excited and motivated."

"I still need to work on my strength. The first 10 metres was rubbish. I had no power, no nothing. I have tried to work on it but it didn't work out.

Quote of the day

"NYSC at the moment is a one year programme where we train all our graduates and give them two to three weeks drill; and that is all they do...i suggest very strongly, that the NYSC should be expanded to two years where the first one year is devoted entirely to military training."....David Mark on his desire for NYSC extension

Yes, it's my first time announcing it live -- that today I went in, and I signed, and I am running to be the president of Haiti,"...Wyclef said on Larry King Live yesterday

He has submitted the necessary paperwork to run for the president of Haiti

It wil be recalled that on January 12,an earthquake killed more than 220,000 people, destroyed 60 percent of government infrastructure and left more than 180,000 homes uninhabitable in Haiti
